Here are my pictures (digital only at this point) from our Kilimanjaro climb. I'll be adding text at a later date.

All pictures below are thumbnails. If you want to see the larger picture, simply click on the thumbnail. If you want to download the picture, simply right-click on it and do a "save as" to get the image. Note that you can do this either on the thumbnail or the full image.

Also, please note if you want to print this picture out after saving:

  1. I would advise you download the larger image...but...
  2. In order to save space on my web site, I have reduced the quality (and thus, the size) of the larger image...so...
  3. Please email me with the image that you want (right-click on it, choose "properties" and look at the file name at the top), and I will email the full-sized image to you for printing

We took the Machame route up Kili, and pictures are by day:

Day 1, Jan. 1st 2003 Machame gate (5,906 ft.) to Machame hut (9,803 ft.)

43 guides and porter               The unamog is ready for business

Has anyone seen this @@#%^?!! tent?!!

  Oh, here it is!!

Day 2, Jan. 2nd - Machame to Shira hut (12,598 ft.)

There is a mountain here!!        Loo with a view

Meru was a site to behold (even without the loo)

Day 3, Jan 3rd - Shira to Barranco hut (12,959 ft., with a high-point in between of about 15,000 ft.)

Kili exposes itself (briefly)        August calls Steve "Susie"

Barranco Gorge

Day 4, Jan 4th - Barranco to Barafu hut (15,092 ft.)

Barranco offers some great Kili views

The Barranco wall

A very important porter, albeit a bit smaller than me, carries valuable cargo

Barafu

    Mawenzi

Day 5, Jan 5th - Barafu to summit (19,341 ft.) to Mweka hut (10,171 ft.)

There's a lot of snow, despite what they say!

from the summit

  Happy meal makes it intact!!!

Descending

Day 6, Jan 6th - Out

Mweka Trail - what a relief!

Our fearless leader shows us what he thinks of the nice picture site

And a well-deserved beer, at that

At the hotel

He may look short, but Josef was all muscle (that's how I justify it, anyway)

Jeff shows the usefulness (not geekiness) of 2 pocket holders

Did Donna realize she was on film?

The day after our climb reveals the best view yet of Kibo & Mawenzi from the hotel
